The Sonneveld House, the museum house of the NAI, gives us a glimpse into a Modern home of the 1930s. The house and its interior have been restored as fully as possible. Not only has much of the original furniture been traced, but the Sonneveld family’s art collection has been reconstituted as far as possible. But sometimes it takes years to rediscover a painting or sculpture. The original painting that used to hang above the sofa in the sitting room was recently traced.
When the Sonnevelds moved into their new house on Jongkindstraat in 1933, they brought hardly anything with them from their former home. The whole interior was designed from scratch with new furniture and fabrics. Only their clothes, books, a few paintings and a small sculpture by John Rädecker came along with the family…
